The aim of this course is to introduce new doctoral students to the academic and practical aspects of the doctoral programme and the research process. On successful completion of the course you are expected to be able to:

  • critically analyse and review academic texts
  • start delineating your research area and formulating your research problem
  • reflect about your role as a doctoral student and as a researcher
  • start understanding what it means to do doctoral research and write a doctoral thesis – what constitutes a significant contribution to knowledge
