Incoming exchange students

Contact your international coordinator at your home university for more information.

The deadline for nomination for the fall semester is April 10th, applications are due no later than April 15th. For spring semester the nomination deadline is October 1st, applications are due no later than October 10th.

Once you are accepted by your home university, they will nominate you to us. When we receive your nomination, we will contact you with more information and instructions on how to apply to SBS, using our online application system.

You will also have access to our courses and receive information on course registration. Official Transcript should be submitted with the online application. Once you have been admitted to SBS, we will send you an electronic offer letter and proof of insurance.

To be eligible for studies at Stockholm Business School through a student exchange program the following requirements must be met in order to apply.

General requirements

• There must be an agreement between SBS and the student’s home institution which allows for student exchange.
• You must be registered as a student with one of our partner institutions.
• You must be nominated by your home university for a study period abroad at SBS.

Language requirements

Non-native English speakers outside of the EU
If your first language is not English, you will be required to meet Stockholm University's English language requirements which is equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school course English 6.

• TOEFL-paper: 550, TOEFL-computer: 213,
• TOEFL-internet: 80 (Writing: 20, Speaking: 20, Reading: 20, and Listening: 20),
• IELTS: 6.5 or higher (no subtest less than 6.0 in the Academic Module).
• Cambridge ESOL; C1 Advanced (CAE), minimum overall score 180
• Cambridge Michigan Language Assessments, University of Michigan, Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE)

Students from an Erasmus+ partner university do not need to document English proficiency, but we do expect that our incoming Erasmus students have a good command of the English language that enables them to communicate well at an academic level, at least B2.

Requirements for students at undergraduate level

• Undergraduate students must have completed at least one year of university studies with least one semester/30 ECTS of business-related courses.

Requirements for students at the graduate level

• Graduate students must submit a copy of their bachelor’s degree.

Each semester Stockholm Business School offers a number of courses in English for undergraduate and graduate students visiting us for exchange. The list of courses is available with the online application once you have been nominated by your home university.

Please note that not all courses are offered every semester. Exchange students are not able to study courses in Swedish at Stockholm Business School.

Swedish for beginners

Exchange students are offered Swedish language courses at several different levels.  For more information, please visit the Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism. Students interested in these courses will be able to register for Swedish language courses from August 1st for the autumn semester and from January 1st for the spring semester.

Credit System

The Swedish higher education credit system is fully integrated into ECTS, the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. One Swedish higher education credit (sometimes called credit, HE credit or hp) is equivalent to one ECTS credit. Full-time studies are equivalent to 30 higher education credits/ECTS credits per semester.

You will receive a email containing information and an invitation to an information event organized by Stockholm Business School. During the welcome session you will receive information from the Head of Department, the Director of Studies, the Study Advisor, and student representatives.

Buddy program

The Business Student Association (Föreningen Ekonomerna) organise a buddy program called Fadderiet at the start of every semester which matches up international and Swedish students for a variety of social events, including dinners, sightseeing, an international cruise, and more. This is a great way for exchange students to get to know Swedish students and the city of Stockholm. The events are generally well-perceived and sometimes there are only a limited number of spots available, so be sure tor egister for each event as soon as possible. More information about the Buddy program will be sent to you closer to the time of your arrival.

Public Transport - SL

Students studying at least 75% (22.5 ECTS credits per semester) can buy a student travel card for public transportation. These cards can be bought at SL ticket offices as well as from the ticket machines found at subway stations and from many newsstands.

A valid student ID card from Stockholm University (or another Swedish university) is required for use of a student travel card, when you arrive it can be a good idea to buy a weekly pass or a three-day pass when you first arrive. These can also be bought at SL ticket offices, the ticket windows at subway stations, and many newsstands.
